Blending the Greek words axios (worthy) and petra (rock), Axopetra reflects the timeless beauty, authenticity, and strength of Naxos, a destination worthy of unforgettable memories.
Our Spirit
The Story Behind Axopetra Boutique Hotel Our name carries the spirit of Naxos island. Just across from the sandy shores of Agiassos Beach, rising from the Aegean, stands a rock called Exopetra (Εξώπετρα in Greek), “the rock beyond the island.” From our hotel, you can gaze at this timeless landmark, a symbol of strength, serenity, and nature’s artistry. Inspired by this rock, we named our coastal retreat Axopetra Boutique Hotel.
The word Axio- comes from the Greek ἄξιος (axios), meaning worthy, valuable. Combined with petra (πέτρα), meaning rock, it becomes a symbol of both strength and meaning. And here lies a beautiful coincidence: Axios is heard within Naxos. In this way, the name of our hotel reflects not only the rock we see from Agiassos, but also the island itself, a place worthy of discovery, authenticity, and timeless memories and history.
